January 25, 2007 message from Fred Garcia.

Hello,

I am sorry to announce that the Microsoft Chess Club will no longer continue operating on Friday nights. This has been a difficult decision to arrive at but, after consulting with other club directors, we feel it is the best decision for now. Attendance has been very sparse over the past few months and there are many other forums available now in the Seattle area that promote both serious and recreational play for both adults and children. These include the Seattle Chess Club ( http://www.seattlechess.org/ ), Chess4Life ( www.chess4life.com ), and the casual pick up games available at Crossroads Mall. We hope that you will find something in one or several of these forums to help you keep growing in and enjoying chess. I am sure I will see many of you around at chess tournaments and events in the area. Good luck to all; it has been my pleasure to work with all of you in helping you enjoy chess.

Thanks,

Fred Garcia

Directions:

  • I-405 to 520 towards Redmond
  • NE 40th exit
  • Turn right at light (NE 40th)
  • Right at first light (156th Ave NE)
  • Left on NE 36th St (2nd light)
  • First right at four way stop sign onto Microsoft Way
  • First left to 157th Pl NE
  • You now face building 9 (our meeting place).
  • Go Straight into building 9 parking lot. To get to the garage underneath, have to go around the building on the left and enter by building 8. Once in garage, take a right back towards building 9 and follow “Building 9 Café loading” signs.
  • Park and look for hidden opening near the café 9 loading sign through the back wall. This is the entry NOT requiring badge access since it goes towards outside water fountain. Go up the stairs, to your left is the big water fountain, building 9 café faces the fountain on left. Knock on glass doors for Chess club members to escort you in.

Note: The secured large Chess playing building is provided by Microsoft for Non-Msft and Microsoft Chess club members. A blue badge employee escort will open the door at the café for Chess players. Non-Msft members simply need to write down their car license number and bring it to the club.

Some signs will be posted but best to print out JPG map.

BRING OWN BOARD AND CLOCK.
