2011 TACOMA CHESS TIMES by Gary Dorfner

November-December 2011

  • The Tacoma Chess Club Blitz Championship was held on 11/11/2011. There were 5 players in all. The winners were: 1st Peter Marriott and Paul Bartron, 5.5 each. Peter won the title when he beat Paul in a playoff match.
  • The TCC Sat. Fall Quads was canceled as only two players showed up.
  • Santa’s Quads were held at the club on 12/17. There were two quads, 4 players in Quad #1 and 7 players in Quad #2 (run as a Swiss). The winners were: Quad #1, 1st Dan Reisinger and Larry Anderson, 2.0 each; Quad #2, 1st Mike Mellott, 2.5, 2nd Bill Rogers and Robert Trippel, 2.0 each.
  • The Christmas Congress was held at the club on 12/17. It was to have been a two-day event but as there were only six players we had to change it to a one-day event. The winners were: 1st Murlin Varner $45.00, 2nd Nickola Pazderic was playing as an Economy player and was not eligible for prize money, 3rd James Wang.
  • TD for all of these events: Gary Dorfner. No one showed up for the TCC Novice Side Event.

March-April 2011

  • The Daffodil Open was held at the club on April 9th. There were 10 players in all. The winners were: 1st Paul Bartron 4 points, 2nd Peter O’Gorman 3.5. TD: Gary Dorfner.
  • The Spring Championship was held at the club on March 4, 11 and 18. There were only 10 players in all. The winners were: 1st Top Half, Mike MacGregor $10.00, 2nd Paul Bartron and Bruce Swiney $2.50 each. 1st-2nd Bottom Half Joe Lazarus and Steve Buck $7.50 each.
  • The Northwest Open was held at the club on March 12-13. There were 14 players in all. The winners were: 1st Bruce Swiney 4 points, 2nd Marcell Szabo and Micah Losee 3.5 each.

The Tacoma vs. Seattle Chess Club Match was held at the TCC on Sat. 3/5. The results were as follows:

February 2011

  • The Tacoma Chess Club membership meeting was held on Jan. 28th at the club. The following members were elected officers for 2011: Pres. Steve Buck, V.P. Dan Reisinger, Sec. Bruce Swiney, Treas. Mike MacGregor, TD Gary Dorfner, Sergeant At Arms Paul Bartron.
  • The Pierce County Open was held on Jan. 29th. There were 8 players In all. The winners were: 1st Paul Bartron $50.00, 1st U1800 Marcell Szabo $40.00.
  • The Valentine Swiss was held on 2/4. There were 9 players in all. The winners were: 1st Paul Bartron, Peter Marriott and Joe Kiiru 3-1 each. TD for these 2 events: Gary Dorfner.
