Winter Chess Fest Scholastic Event Results

IM Georgi Orlov was the chief director for a large scholastic chess event held January 18, 2014 at Broadview Thompson Elementary School in Seattle. The K-1st Grade section had 55 players and two finished with 5-0 scores: Robert Michailov and George Hurley. 106 players in Grades 2-4 section ended with another two players with 5-0 scores: Nathan Chen and Jackson Boydston. The 5th to 8 grade section with 63 players had a single 5-0 score by Andreas Faray.

Chess4Life Scholastic Chess Event Results

The Chess4Life Bellevue Center held a tournament on January 20, 2014 for kids. The 21 player open section was won by Tarik Kameric with 5-0. 18 players took part in the U800 rated section. The winner, Shakti Senthil also scored 5-0. The U500 rated section was a tie between David Balin and Bharadwa Duggaraju at 4.5-.5. The drew with each other. Lane Van Weerdhuzen was the tournament director.

2014 Winter Carnival Results

They have posted on their website the Winter 2014 All Star List as of 31 Dec 2013.

Jerry Ramey directed a scholastic chess tournament of 5 sections at South Eugene High School on Jan 18, 2014.

Aaron Grabinsky the top rated player in the Elite Eight Section won that section 3.5-5. 14 player Advanced section was won by Sophia Dossin with 5-0. 29 player Intermediate section was won by Kevin Huh also 5-0. Four players topped the 18 player Novice II section, Jj Newman, Arvind Mahadevan, Zach Lathrom and Caroline Foskett with 4-1 scores. The Novice I section of 12 players was won with a 4.5-.5 score by Ian Vo.

On Jan 20, 2014 36 scholastic players in two sections played in a chess event. Jean Lin scored 5-0 to top the K-3 13 player section. Same score by Ashley Lin won the 23 player Grades 4-6 section. The two girls are sisters. Site of the Martin Luther King Day event was Einstein Wise in Vancouver WA and the tournament director was Sudhakar Kudva.
