Paul Weaver - Level 10 (chess titans) 12/17/13-12/18/13 Center Counter Defense (Scandinavian) 1 e4 d5 2 exd5 Qxd5 3 Nc3 Qa5 4 d4 e5 5 dxe5 (I discovered that the book move is 5 Nf3. for a game there is Tarrasch vs. Mieses) Qxe5+ 6 Be2 Bb4 7 Nf3 (gambiting a pawn. 7 Bd2 is more solid but a lot less adventurous) Bxc3+ 8 bxc3 Qxc3+ 9 Bd2 c5 10 0-0 (10 Rb1 provokes Qa3 out of the program. This may be sharper than the text because black can catch up in development) Bf5 11 Re1 Ne7 12 Bg5? (this attracts the hand but 12 c4 with the idea of a4 followed by Ba3 is probably better) f6? (12 ... Nbc6! handles the Bb5+ lines and consolidates black's position. white has nothing better than 13 c4 but black has his pieces in play by 0-0. 13 Bf4 Bxc2?? (this loses a piece. The "c" pawn is poisoned right now: 13 ... Qxc2?? 14 Bb5+! now all three lines by black are demolished: a) 14 ... Kf7 15 Qxc2 Bxc2 16 Rac1 Bg6 17 Rxc7 b) 14 ... c6 15 Qd6! Be4 16 Rac1!! Qxc1 17 Rxc1 cxb5 18 Qe6!! Bc6 19 Re1! c) 14 ... Nc6 15 Qxc2 Bxc2 16 Nd4 g5! 17 Bg5 f5 18 Be5! Kf7 19 Bc4+! Kg6 20 Bxh8 Rxh8 21 Re6+ Kg7 22 Nxc2 Black's best is 13 ... Nbc6! putting the burden on white to have anything after 14 c4 0-0-0) 14 Qc1 Nd7 (14 ... Qc6 15 Nd4 or 14 ... b6 15 Be3!) 15 Be3! Qc3 16 Bd1 Ne5 17 Bxc2 Nxf3+ 18 gxf3 "Qa5 19 Bb3 g6 (dropping a second piece but 10 ... b6 allows 20 Qxc7 and 19 ... 0-0-0 20 Bxa7 Qxa7 21 Rxe7 is no fun for black) 20 Bc5! 0-0-0 21 Bxe7 Rd3 22 Re3! (stopping the counterplay) Qg5+ 23 Kh1 Rd7 (dropping the exchange but 23 ... Rd4 is best met by 24 Re4! killing the attack) 24 Be6 Qb5 25 Qd1 Re8 26 Bxd7+ Qxd7 27 Qd7+ Kxd7 28 Rd1+ Kc8 29 Bxf6 Rf8 30 Red3! taking black's last piece off the board. Of course after this it is easy but there are a few pretty points coming up to finish up with a little style) c5 31 Rd8+ Rxd8 32 Rxd8+ Kc7 33 a4! (preventing black's pawn mass from advancing to 33 ... a6 34 a5!) b6 34 Rh8 h5 35 Rh7+ Kb8 36 Be5+ Ka8 37 Kg1 a6 38 Rc7! (preventing stalemate and putting black in zugswang) h4 39 Kf1 g5 40 Ke1 h3 41 Kd1 Kb8 42 Rxc5+ Ka8 43 Rc6 Kb6 44 Rg6 b5 45 axb5 axb5 46 Kc2 Kc8 47 Rg7! Kd8 (the rest of the game was concluded on 12/18) 48 Kb3 ba4 49 Kxb4 Ke8 50 Bf6! Kf8 51 Kc5 Ke8 52 Kd6 Kf8 53 Ke6 g4 54 fxg4 Ke8 55 Rg8 mate
