chess titans (level 10)-Paul Weaver 1/14 , 1/16, 1/17/14 Benoni 1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 c5 3 e3 g6 4 Nf3 Bg7 5 Nc3 0-0 6 Be2 d6 7 0-0 Nbd7 8 Bd2 b6 9 Bd3 Bb7 10 b3 Rc8 11 Nb5 a6 12 Nc3 here the game was adjourned. Coming up with a plan here was difficult. 12 ... Rc7 (the initial idea involved following this up with ... Qa8 and ... Rfc8 and ... d5) 13 d5 Nb8 (the purpose of this retreat is to allow ... Re7 after ... e6) 14 a4 e6 15 a5 bxa5 16 dxe6? (this deserves censure since it allows black to suddenly grab the attack) fxe6 17 Rxa5 Bxf3 18 gxf3 (18 Qf3 loses a piece to 18 ... Nd5 19 Qd1 Nxc3 20 Qc2 [20 Qc1 Qf6 21 f3 Nc6 22 Ra3 Nb4 followed by ... d5-d4 and black wins] Qf6 21 f3 Nc6! 22 Ra3 Nb4 wins or 22 Ra1 Nb4) Rcf7 19 Ne4? (19 Ra2 offered chances to defend the position. Now black runs wild) Nxe4 20 Bxe4 (20 fxe4 loses directly to 20 ... Qg5+ and ... Rxf2) d5 21 Bd3 Rxf3 22 Rxc5 Qg5+ 23 Kh1 Rxf2 24 Rxf2 Rxf2 25 Be4 Qe5 (I thought the game was over here but) 26 Rc8+! Bf8 27 Rxf8+ Kxf8 28 Bb4+ Kg8 29 Bg2 here the game was adjourned. Upon resumption 30 to 45 minutes was required to find the decisive continuation. See if you can find it. It is tricky! No analyzing was done during the adjournments! 29 ... Qb2!! (winning. 29 ... Ra2 is defended by 30 Be1! and it is hard to find anything substantial for black to put white away) 30 Bd6 (the main line ran 30 Qg1 dxc4 31 Bd6 [31 bxc4 Rxg2! 32 Qxg2 Qxb4 wins] cxb3! 32 Bxb8 Rxg2! 33 Qxg2 Qxg2+ 34 Kxg2 b2 and the pawn will queen) Rxg2 31 Bxb8 Rc2! (this resource had to be foreseen) 32 cxd5 Rc1 33 Qxc1 Qxc1+ and black won easily. the remaining moves were 34 Kg2 exd5 35 Bf4 Qb2+ 36 Kf3 Qxb3 37 Be5 a5 38 h3 a4 39 Bb4 a3 40 h4 a2 41 Kf4 Kf7 42 h5 gxh5 43 Ke5 Qb1 44 Kxd5 h4 45 e4 a1Q 46 Bxa1 Qxa1 47 e5 h3 48 Kd6 Qd4+ 49 Kc7 h2 50 e6+ Kxe6 51 Kb8 h1R (making it very easy to avoid stalemate) 52 Kb7 Qc4 53 Kb8 Rb1+ 54 Ka8 Qa6 mate
