the cute mate the computer saw

In this case the position in question arose after 1 e4 c6 2 d4 d5 3 Nc3 b5!? 4 a3 dxe4 5 Nxe4 Bf5 6 Ng3 Be6 7 Nf3 Nd7 8 Be2 f5?? 9 Ng5! Now here the computer played 9 ... Qa5+ handing white a piece which he duly won with. The question is: why did the computer do that? An explanation lies in 9 ... Bd5 (what else?) 10 Nxf5 now here I had intended 10 ... Bxg2 11 Rg1? but there is a mate in the position! i.e. 11 Nxg7+! Bxg7 12 Bh5+ Kf8 13 Ne6 mate

Of course much better was 9 ... Bd5 since after 10 Nxf5 g6 11 Ne3 black is a pawn down as opposed to losing a piece after 9 ... Qa5+??. Of course white should win but it will take some good play to convert it.
