This a sincere request that you consider playing in this tourney, by making arrangements as early as possible to travel to Victoria over Easter weekend. Now is the time to do that.. I have enjoyed the event more than once in the past, and I am speaking from experience. These organizers have done great work in putting this on, and risking their own money, for four consecutive years, and now for what will be the fifth time, and with very little support from Washington players.. Why is this? I can't figure it out. Two of the organizers came to Redmond and played in the WA Class this past November, trying to generate interest for this upcoming tourney from the players there at the WA Class Championships... Come on.. It would only be fair to give them a try. The value here in this tourney and hotel stay exceeds what is offered in Reno. Especially for any player who is rated below 2200. I say this because the class prizes in Reno are not guaranteed, and they never come close to their based on structure. I've seen a casino. Have you seen a casino before? I promise you. Victoria is way, way more charming.. I don't want to jinx them in any way, but the Victoria group will put on a tourney that starts on time each round.. No long unexplained delays at the start of each round, as unfortunately you've come to expect in the larger WCF events in the Seattle area. They provide the clocks and sets for all boards so you can travel even lighter. Plus they have several side events included in the cost that make it a really great bargain if you take part in all that is available. The hotel is great.. I should say fabulous. Theirs a wonderful indoor swimming pool.. And Victoria's downtown is nice to get out in and walk around. It may be a nice weekend with sun, which right now in rainy March would be nice to have. Can't guarantee that either, but if it rains while you're there, well, your chess won't suffer... If you can get to the waterfront of downtown Seattle early Friday morning, you board the Victoria Clipper and it whisks you pretty smoothly to the Inner Harbor of Victoria, painlessly.. The only inconvenience is the line up for customs, but this is an international adventure. No body scans ..as far as I know..Just bring your passport..And then you are steps away from checking into your hotel room. Get relaxed there. Eat in the hotel, or go exploring. First round I believe is 6PM. So you will have plenty of time. You will be ready for your finest chess performance... And then when the 6th and last round begins on Monday at 10AM.. Your game will be over with ample time to get ready for a leisurely return arriving in Seattle by around 9PM.. Three hotel nights.. Maybe two days off from school or work. Maybe meet some pleasant opponents and make new chess friends abroad. Invite them to come to one of our tourneys in the future.. What's not to like about that?.. So if this sounds a bit more interesting or tempting to you but you still have some doubts, call or write to the organizers and get that last question or two answered by them. You won't regret it.
