A strong attendance of about 205 players took part from throughout the Northwest, primarily from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>The event was hosted by Washington Chess Federation.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers: WCF Tournament Coordinator Dan Mathews &amp; WCF President Josh Sinanan.<br \/>\nTournament Directors: Fred Kleist &amp; Gary Dorfner.<\/p>\n<p>WCF Scholastic Director David Hendricks ran the WA Open Scholastic on Saturday, which attracted 74 players.<\/p>\n<p>International Master <strong>Georgi Orlov<\/strong> won clear first place in the open section with a perfect 6-0 score, defeating three FM&#8217;s along the way: Tian Sang, Roland Feng, and David Bragg. \u00a0A full point behind Orlov was a group of 4 players who tied for second place: FM <strong>Roland Feng<\/strong>, FM <strong>Tian Sang<\/strong>, FM <strong>Steven Breckenridge<\/strong> and <strong>Benjamin Mukumbya<\/strong>, who was featured in the recent Disney Film <em>Queen of Katwe<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>The US Chess tournament rating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uschess.org\/msa\/XtblMain.php?201705298712.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a> is now available.<br \/>\nPhotos from the tournament can be viewed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/Washington-Chess-Federation-173076032716634\/photos\/?tab=album&amp;album_id=1599654183392138\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners include:<\/p>\n<p>=1st Place Reserve Section:<strong> Daniel Shubin<\/strong>, <strong>Jeffrey Yan<\/strong>, <strong>Joshua Lewis-Sandy<\/strong>, and <strong>Brandon Jiang<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1st Place Booster Section:<strong> Northern Brown<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>=2-5th Place Booster Section:<strong> Drake Borden<\/strong>, <strong>Harrison Keyser<\/strong>, <strong>Michael Kuang<\/strong>, <strong>Erik Liu<\/strong>, <strong>Tommy Rodgers<\/strong>, and <strong>Ajay Pai<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The 2017 WA Open was held at the Lynnwood Embassy Suites over Memorial Day weekend May 27-29.
