IN MEMORIAM – Kenneth M. Grover, Sr., May 10, 1908 - Sep. 6, 1993

Photo of checker champion Ken Grover playing in 1962 Seattle Seafair Open Chess Tournament. He tied for 1st place with future Grandmaster Duncan Suttles. Grover toured the USA giving checker and chess simultaneous exhibitions for many years. He ran a "play checkers against him" booth on Coney Island along side Arthur Dake's chess booth. See a photo of Ken Grover and some related checkers history from the 1940s on the Online Museum of Checkers History website.
See Tacoma Public Library image of Ken Grover playing a simultaneous checkers and chess exhibition in Tacoma in 1943.
See gravesite and life information on findagrave.com. (He is buried at Sunset Memorial Park, Hoquiam, Grays Harbor County, Washington.)
Information supplied by IM John Donaldson: According to the above-referenced article (on findagrave.com), "He was a GM chess player and author of the book Chess." My impression is that he was a strong expert rated player - not a GM. (Which indeed is likely, as he has never been mentioned to our knowledge in the context of American GM chess players of the 20th Century, and he apparently never played in the WA State chess championship.)
